more seating for the house with one ass.

i've been doing so good lately. keeping out of thrift stores and junk shops. staying off of craigslist. ok, so i've bought some guitar parts for some projects i've had sitting, but i spend way less on that stuff than if i'm out in the wild.
but yesterday was so boring at work. and craigslist kept pulling my attention. driving 40 minutes one way for a chair? am i really thinking about this? absolutely. and i'm very happy i did.
i really didn't want to post the craigslist shot of this, but it is way too dark in my house to get any kind of real pictures. its in fantastic shape all around, and while i don't normally do blondes this makes for a nice change around the house.
it only ended up being 35 each way, and marty who sold me the chair was kind enough to give me a great deal if i also bought this stool he had.

i thought that was fair :)

trying to stay in it...

been way longer than i meant it to be...and i really have nothing to report. so here's a picture of my puppy next to the large branch that fell from my oak tree. and a chair.

the thing is i do have stuff to write about....i just never take the time. or pictures! so hard to remember to take pictures! we just had a beautiful weekend, the best i can remember for some time. i spent a lot of it in my back yard playing with betty (puppy), smoking cigs and grilling. not gonna be too many more of these days this year. although i hope there are many, i still don't have a furnace!

if i can remember i need pics of the baughman style floating cube chairs i got at the goodwill recently. a pair for $20! they came out of the new albany public library, which means i most likely spent some time in them in my childhood. if rock and roll hadn't fried my brain i might be able to remember. until my memory prevails and there are pics they don't exist i guess, at least not in this world.

oh craigslist....you complete me.

it was one of those posts....with the bad pics.....and you're not really sure what you're looking at....and they're not really sure what they're looking at...and you know someone has beat you to it....but you send the email......and you wait.

sometimes you actually luck out and get the email back. i've got a small collection of lane acclaim furniture that i'm always happy to add to. it was nothing but a coffee table for years, found by mom at a yardsale for $20. then a few months ago a set of step end tables for $60. awesome.

well i knew in this picture that there was an end table with drawer with the really cool wooden handle. the other looked like a coffee table with a drawer? i've never seen such an animal in this series! so we make the arrangements to meet pretty late after my session is over. i arrive at the house and start walking toward the tables sitting by the garage. where is the coffee table?! come to find out its a sofa table! never seen this one either and super happy as i don't really need another coffee table and 2 of the same one is just too much. i tried to get some pics this morning but they came out really dark, everything does in my house. gotta remember to find picture lights. so here is a shot of the end table in its new spot.

i really wanted to show off more of the room, but the table was extra dark in that shot. here it is anyway.

i'm gonna try for some better shots of this sofa table, and to find a spot for it. does anybody else have one? just curious. stay tuned.

what a week.....er month...er whatever

wow. my week turned into a month. lovely vacation, which i actually spent mostly as a vacation for once. although i did do some work in the place. heres some pics of my lovely attic before i cleaned up and covered the ceiling in plastic.

doesn't that just make you wanna crawl around on your knees for hours? about 5 to be exact between sweeping out junk and covering all the old plaster and drywall on the ceiling with plastic sheets. i have no after shots, but its now as clean as i can get for now and storage is happening. awesome! that means i can move on to the next room!

and then this happened.........

oh yeah...did i mention i'm in the middle of tracking a record for the band (ohlm)? well it'd been put on hold while i was getting my house livable (read:power and water) and this is when the timing worked out. bass tracks sound great! i have no pics of the rig set up but this was the room we used....

and now a mere 4 days after we've finished tracking, it looks like this......

whew...

its been a long few weeks........

yay vacation!

so as the business i work for is still locally owned, and mostly still a family company we shut down a week every summer. just an amazing thing really. project time for sure! i was hoping to have some new pics of things i've accomplished at the house.....but i've been putting it all off until vacation week. here's what i've been doing with my time instead of doing things i should be.

just can't resist a cute puppy. i'll be back with pics of projects hopefully in a week or so. see ya!

slow days...

its amazing how slow business can get in the summer time. i guess used musical equipment isn't the first thing on peoples minds this time of year. luckily for me it gives me lots of time to think about the multitudes of projects ahead of me. i'm going to post some inside shots of the house. they're not pretty.

wow. thats a mess. and yes, i am living in it. its honestly come a bit since these shots, but they're the most current ones i have. slowly getting through rooms one by one just doing basic clean up and making lists of what needs to happen next. thats all for now. i'll leave you with this "not as straight as i'd like" but only shot i have of the only set up room in the house.

hello

my name is skinny. i'm hoping to use this to share all kinds on things. thoughts on music, equipment, mid century decor, old architecture, refurbing a very old house, rants on daily life working in a used music shop.

today has been a day of talkers. most of my days end up like this. bored old men talking about whatevers in their head that day, rednecks that have watched too many pawn/picker shows that think their messed old equipment is worth a fortune because its old, hobby players with tons of questions about trying to decipher all the information they've read online. as much as i love technology it sure does confuse people. we wanted all the information...we got it....now we don't know what to do with it.

wierd thing is, the people that drive me crazy here prolly don't have much of a different thought process than i. after realizing this a while back i've tried to modify my patterns, but a junker i am. guess its kinda human nature to be wierd with someone similar, at least when you think like this. my largest junk buy to date happened recently. a house! junk may not be the right word, but it was a foreclosure house, and to a lot of people it would be junk. all i see is freedom.

this is the house. built in the 1890's it still stands proud here in louisville ky. sadly not taken care of like a lot of the rest of the neighborhood its in, but people are starting to pay attention again. i won't say what i paid, but lets just say most people spend more on a car. all because its in a "bad neighborhood". what makes a bad neighborhood? drugs? muggings? people on different race and thought process? yeah we got those....but i bet your neighborhood does too.

its gonna take a lot of work, but i'm excited. reeeaaallllyyy excited. best thing yet was after 3 weeks of living here i finally got water 2 nights ago! my buddy AK really is the best man alive. never a better feeling than using your own bathroom after weeks of nothing. its been extra fun as i also don't have plumbing or a bathroom where i work......but thats a rant for another day.
